By: Bannon Moran and Kylee Smith, Contributing Writers The Centralia High School Student Council, along with Mr. Justin Hagedorn, Student Council sponsor, planned and executed the 2022 Winterwarming pep assembly and dance. A major difference this year was the name change of the event. What we have known as Courtwarming was changed to Winterwarming. The name change now combines Matwarming, which recognizes the wrestlers, with Courtwarming, which recognizes basketball players.
Courtwarming has been a longstanding tradition in Centralia that families and students look forward to every year. Leading up to the game, the Student Council hosted a pep rally to get everyone hyped-up for the big game. The theme this year was Back in Black and everyone was encouraged to dress in black for the game. The dance also saw some big changes this year. Attire for the dance went from casual to semi-formal and was held on the following night after the game, which was Saturday, February 12. This allows all students time to get dressed-up rather than attending the dance directly after the game. Not a lot has changed over the years, but going back a few years, in 1997, students had a Greek themed dress-up week leading up to their big night. All week, students would dress up based on the theme. Students took the theme very seriously and even got competitive to see which class would have the most participation. Hagedorn accepted the position of Student Council sponsor and says he enjoys, “providing opportunities for the students to have fun.” This is Hagedorn’s fourth year as a sponsor and looks forward to another successful Winterwarming next year. The name might have changed, but the tradition is still the same. Comments are closed.
