By: Gracie Stains, Contributing Writer Mrs. Anita Lumley, former writing tutor and student teacher, is a new language arts teacher at Centralia High School. Lumley has an Associate of Arts and a Bachelors of Science degree in English. She is currently enrolled at Missouri State University as a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Teaching program. She is half way through the program, and will take classes while she teaches.
Lumley studied at Missouri State University and Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC) . Lumley participated in tutoring for three years at a writing center at OTC. She student taught for five months at Glendale High School in Springfield, Missouri. She was inspired to teach language because she has “always loved writing and storytelling,” she explains. Lumley wanted to start in Centralia because the community reminds her of her hometown Buffalo, Missouri. Lumley spends her free time writing short stories and poetry. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and kittens. “The community has been so welcoming,” says Lumley. She is excited to get to know the students, faculty, and staff at CHS.
