By: Karyssa McCubbin, Contributing Writer The Centralia High School(CHS) Quiz Bowl team is off to a tremendous start. They are currently 2-1. The team consists of 18 members. Coaches, Dr. Andrew Darr and Mr. Andrew Reynolds work with the varsity and junior varsity teams.
Quiz bowl is where two teams play head-to-head against each other to answer questions from numerous categories. Some of the categories include mathematics, literature, mythology, science, social studies, fine arts, and pop culture. Each player has to buzz in to answer a question. “I think Quiz Bowl is a fantastic, challenging and exciting activity that pushes students to learn more about history, science, literature, and fine arts among other subjects, and as a lifelong learner, that is incredibly exciting,” said Andrew Darr, varsity Quiz Bowl coach. The Quiz Bowl team participates in ten conference matches, along with a number of tournaments. “We also had an incredibly close match against Macon on January 19th, where we came back from a 120 point deficit to clinch the win on the last question that was absolutely beautiful to behold. Quiz Bowl definitely generates a lot of great memories for the players involved,” said Darr. “Quiz Bowl is honestly so much fun, because you get to learn something you like and spend time with friends,” said Susana Nix, varsity team member. Some upcoming events include the CCC match versus Clark County in Centralia on February 2nd, the Palmyra Academic Winter Showdown on February 4th and the CCC match at Palmyra. Comments are closed.
