By: Griffin Anderson, Contributing Writer The Centralia High School FFA chapter wrapped up their annual canned food drive in December. The FFA members organize the food drive to be able to collect items at all of the district’s four campuses: Chance Elementary, Centralia Intermediate, Chester Boren Middle and Centralia High.
Scott Stone, CHS FFA advisor, said they collected 2,172 cans. FFA tries to motivate each building to participate in the drive by offering a free pizza party to the class that brings in the most items. The winning classes were: Mrs. Dollens at CES, Mrs. Henricks at CIS, Mrs. Gramke at CBMS and Mrs. Hempen at CHS. “The food drive allows everyone in school an opportunity to feel good about helping others. There are a lot of food insecure families in our area. This is just our way to help families in our community,” said Stone. Rachel Haskell, CHS senior, agrees with Stone. “”It has such a positive impact and helps out a lot during the holidays,” said Haskell. Some cans are given to families in need and those not given directly to families are donated to Esther’s Food Pantry at Centralia United Methodist Church. Comments are closed.
