By: Elijah Hill, Contributing Writer Centralia High School Polar Panthers is an off-season workout group for any student wanting to stay in shape during the winter season. Polar Panthers is led by FBLA Advisor, Business Teacher, Cross Country and Distance Track Coach Jason Watermann.
Coach Watermann first started this workout group to help current and potential runners get in shape for the upcoming track and cross country season. What makes this workout group particularly unique is that they run outside, even during frigid temperatures. This not only helps current and future runners stay in shape, but also helps them with lung capacity. They do many different types of workouts, mainly consisting of running and weight room training. For these cold temperatures, a long distance workout typically consists of a distance from three to five miles. Polar Panthers meet every B-day until the end of February. “Polar panthers has been such a help for me as I prepare for the upcoming track season. After cross country season I was worried that I would not be able to stay in shape. But thanks to Watermans help, I was able to,” stated Wesely Robertson. Practices usually last from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. after school. “Anyone and everyone is invited so long as they are not currently in a winter sport. Running has become such a competitive sport that everyone is looking for an advantage over the next person. One way to do this is to come to Polar Panthers,” stated Watermann. Comments are closed.
