Four CHS students, Jacob Arnold(Sophomore), Braeden Russell(Sophomore), Terra Veazey(Senior) and Mara Davis(Senior) all auditioned at District Honor Choir on September 3rd, in Hannibal, MO
The students practiced a solo piece from a classical book, performed two minutes of their piece for three judges and then sight read for one judge. If the student had enough points, they advanced to Districts. All four students made District Choir this year. The four students then rehearsed in Moberly on November 2nd for the concert they would perform that evening. Russell and Arnold participated in the freshmen/sophomore choir portion of the concert, while Veazey and Davis both auditioned for All State Choir as members of the junior /senior portion of the evening, but they did not advance. “I was met with some pretty tough songs,” Veazey explains. She was not prepared for the rhythms of one of the songs, but eventually was able to read the music with ease.

To prepare, the students met once a week with Mrs. Leah Rolfson, CHS choir director, to practice their music.  They also listened to recordings of the songs on their own. Davis says “ Terra Veazey and I met with Rolfson once a week [outside of the regular practice] to sing all five of the pieces” and she explains that she listened to the music every chance she got. The students really enjoyed getting to sing, meet new people, and performing well after a long day of hard work. Russell explained the time as “very exciting and a good experience.” The students were very confident when performing, and Rolfson was very pleased with the outcome.
