CHS senior Harper Forshee takes a picture with one of the daycare kids named Kendri.
Harper Forshee, a senior at Centralia High School (CHS), uses the FLEX program to work her two jobs.
Forshee works at Mary Duncan’s Daycare and also as an elderly caregiver to a local community member.

Forshee has been working at the daycare and the caregiver job since the beginning of the school year. On B-days Forshee arrives at the daycare around 9:15 a.m.. At this time the kids have been put into groups based on their age. Once they are grouped she will then play educational songs for the kids. Forshee helps feed them snacks and helps change their diapers at about 10:30 a.m. and leaves around 11:00 a.m.

In the afternoon of A-days Forshee spends her time as a caregiver. Forshee helps an elderly lady as she needs assistance due to limitations. These tasks consist of doing her laundry, helping with her shower routine and just talking with her. Forshee stated,“ I really value both of my jobs and love the relationships I have made at both.”

The most difficult thing about being in FLEX is managing time between school and FLEX. Forshee has learned to balance both workloads. From this experience she has learned a lot from her jobs. Such as how patience and kindness are a necessity to build relationships in the workforce. From her elderly caregiver job, she has learned that work ethic is not always just about efficiently doing your work, you also have to have a level of companionship to do your job well.

“In the matter of less than a year, I have made bonds that will last the rest of my lifetime. I love having an impact on kids and being a friend to people in need,” said Forshee.
