By: Bannon Moran, Contributing Writer Chance Elementary School (CES) second grade students recently published their own class books. This is the first year CES has done this activity with students. Second grade teacher, Kelly Harper said, “We hope to do this same activity each year so students can see and participate in the entire writing process.”
The theme for the books this year was animals. The second grade students worked individually to research a given animal. They then had to write, edit and revise their own work. Each student was to pick a different animal so there would be multiple animals to learn about throughout the book. Students were given two pages. One of the pages was dedicated to writing the facts they chose about their animal. The second page was for the picture they drew and colored of their special animal. Once the students were done, all of the writing and illustrations were put in order by their teacher. After the pages were organized the work was sent off to the publishers to be printed. When the published books came back the second graders had a publishing party and got to read their own and other classes' newly published books. Paxton Henke from Mrs. Espenschieds Class said, “I never thought I would write a book, but I had fun.” Comments are closed.
