Mrs. Leah Rolfson was nominated by Dr. Matt Smith, for the November Arrangement of the month
Smith was very pleased with Mrs. Rolfson when she went above and beyond for the CHS band.
Rolfson went to Macon with the CHS band as Mrs. Neighbors, Band Director, was not able to attend. Rolfson was there from 6am to 10pm helping and supervising the band members. Smith was very appreciative of her willingness to lend a hand where needed. “What a great gesture to go out of her way and give up her whole Saturday to help the Band!” said Smith.
Mrs. Rolfson has been teaching at Centralia for 16 years. She has taught 5th and 6th grade Orchestra, which is now 5th-12th grade Orchestra. In her first year she taught 5th, 6th and 7th grade choir, mixed choir, concert choir and even chamber choir. Rolfson is now teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade Orchestra as well as 9th-12th orchestra, concert choir, chamber choir and rock survey.
Before coming to Centralia, Rolfson taught elementary and middle school orchestra in Dallas for four years. Rolfson also taught orchestra at Wheat Ridge High School, Everitt Middle School and six feeder elementaries for 7 years. Rolfson then came to Centralia to be closer to her brother who had cancer, and convinced her parents to move back as well.
Rolfson was raised in Lakewood, Colorado. She earned a Bachelor’s of Music Education degree from Baylor University, as well as a Master’s of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian College. Rolfson is currently working on a Master’s in Educational Leadership at William Woods University.
Rolfson is the mother to Kaity and William. She has been married to her husband David for 28 years. They met while they were both going to Baylor.
When presented with the arrangement of the month, Rolfson said, “Dr. Smith was kind and I felt appreciated, but I know the rest of the faculty would have done the same thing!”
