By: Samantha Scheeler, Contributing Writer After months of lesson plans, grading marathons and attempts to calm the classroom, teachers finally get the ultimate reward… summer break! Teachers are free to fill in their own schedules. Now, it's all about fun trips, spontaneous naps, or diving into a good book. The moment that last bell rings, they are free for fun and relaxation.
CHS teachers are no exception. They have a lot really great things planned for their summer. The newest Centralia High School (CHS) Language teacher Ms. Gates said, “I have a list of where to visit. I’ve been to around 20 plus countries, and hope to visit all of the continents eventually.” With a long break there are more opportunities to enjoy the world around, hoping to spark new creations in the classroom as well. Mrs. Erbschloe, Language II teacher said, “My family has plans to go to Colorado, Florida and possibly Mexico.” These vacations allow teachers to reset their minds for another year of grading and working with students. Other teachers like Mrs. Fadler who teaches anatomy and biology said, “I would love to take my kids to the zoo and Legoland. As a family we hope to do a lot of camping this summer.” Sometimes the best kind of summer is one where you spend quality time with family or furry friends like Spanish teacher Mrs. Exendine. “The best part of summer is all the free time to travel and hang out with my dog Queso,” said Exendine. She also mentioned,“This year we are taking a three week trip through Europe, Iceland, London, Paris and Germany.” Getting the opportunity to travel around the world sounds like the perfect vacation. For other teachers their work is not finished. CHS government teacher Mr. Kephart said, “I will go to Minnesota for military training.” He also said, “I am so excited to catch up on my to-do list of things I could not do during the school year.” Finishing the chore list sounds like the perfect productive summer while getting some nice fresh air. The classroom may be empty, but the fun is just beginning. Here's to summer break, the time when teachers embrace travel, and prepare for another year of making a difference. Comments are closed.
