By: Samantha Scheeler, Contributing Writer New classes at Centralia High School are being added to the schedule for the 2025-2026 school year. These are not going to be your typical electives. Whether students are into movies, acting, or the history behind them, there will be something to learn in each course. The courses being added are: Acting I , Introduction to Film Studies, History Through Film and even a walking and jogging class
Acting I introduces students to the basics of performance, focusing on voice, movement, and expression, while also improving confidence and public speaking skills. Intro to Film Studies, in addition to Acting I, will be taught by Dr. Andrew Darr. Intro to Film takes a deeper look at how major events are portrayed on screen, comparing Hollywood’s version to real-life history through writing, research, and discussion. “I would like to cover 16 films across the twentieth and twenty first centuries,” said Darr. History Through Film dives into the history of movies and filmmaking techniques. This class will be taught by history teacher Mr. Ethan Buckman. For those looking for a more relaxed PE option, the walking/jogging class is all about getting moving at your own pace, setting personal goals and building healthy habits in a low-stress environment. “I am excited to see the cultural and artistic part of film techniques,”said sophomore Carter Eskridge in reference to signing up for the Film Studies class. With these exciting new classes, next school year is about to get a whole lot more interesting. These courses are more than just opportunities to earn credit. Students can explore new passions, and discover what they are truly capable of. Whether acting, analyzing, or getting active, there’s a class for everyone. Comments are closed.
