By Adyson Rackley, Contributing Writer The Centralia High School (CHS) Future Teachers of America (FTA) club is making a vibrant comeback after being dormant for two years. With its return, FTA members will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and educational passion. An exciting new chapter has begun for these aspiring teachers at CHS.
FTA is an extracurricular club for students who are interested in teaching or wanting to explore working in education. During meetings they discuss educational topics, new laws and bills and talk with local administrators or teachers. Most of their time is spent job shadowing teachers or volunteering at Chance Elementary School (CES) and its Pre-Kindergarten wing as well as Centralia Intermediate School. CHS Special Education teacher Mrs. Audrey Smith is the sponsor for this five member club. Aspiring second grade teacher, Melody Caballero’s interest in education was sparked in 4th grade because of her kind and thoughtful teachers. “It was my second grade teacher, Mrs. Milam that really inspired me. She was super sweet and kind to me!” stated Caballero when inquired if there was a teacher who sparked her interest. Sophomore Brooklyn Bargar is also really interested in FTA and becoming a teacher. When asked what age level she would like to instruct, Bargar responded with, “Pre K through third grade most likely or I would like to be a Special Education teacher.” Comments are closed.
