Excellence in action: Noah Davis scores perfect 36 on ACT

Noah Davis, a senior at Centralia High School (CHS), exemplified what it means to be a dedicated, hard working student by scoring a 36 on the standardized test, the ACT.
After taking the test in June, Davis scored a 35. With determination and countless hours spent on the ACT prep guide book, he then scored a 36.

Behind this outstanding score lies the amount of time, preparation, and study habits in order for Davis to achieve this test. “I cannot recommend the ACT Prep Guide book enough. Even doing one practice test with full time restrictions and looking at the answers you got wrong can help so much. It allows you to see what you need to study, as well as the specific mistakes you are susceptible to,” said Davis. The test is split up into five sections. English, math, reading, science and writing. It is designed to identify the skills of the student, and determine if they are prepared for college level work.

Although the ACT requirements for colleges and universities have been optional, colleges  can still use them for scholarship purposes. This is why the perfect score scholarship was created. Anyone who scores a 36 on their ACT can get four years of tuition paid for. Not all colleges, but many colleges, including Mizzou, offer this. While Davis has been looking at schools such as Purdue, WashU and University of California Davis, Mizzou offering the perfect score scholarship has encouraged him to further look into Mizzou. “MU seems to be the best option because it will pay for all four years of tuition and food, the first year of housing and dining, along with many other benefits,” said Davis.

Mrs. Tonya Dimmitt, the junior and senior counselor at CHS expressed her thoughts on Davis’ success. “To my knowledge, in the 17 years I have worked at CHS, we have only had one other student earn a 36 on the ACT. The previous student graduated in 2011 and earned his 36 in October of 2010,” said Dimmitt. As Davis prepares for the next chapter in his life of academics, this incredible accomplishment paves the way for his success.
