New talents old myths

“Are you ready to learn about Greek mythology?”  That is the opening line for one of the highly awaited spring one-act plays.
These plays are directed by Language Arts instructors Dr. Drew Darr and Mrs. Lacey Erbschloe and student directed by Bailee Farrens and Samantha Scheeler.  There will be a comedy, The Greek Mythology Olymoiaganza and a tragedy, Antigone.

The reason the drama department puts on the one acts instead of producing one big play like the fall is to have a greater opportunity for students to join and be a part of the drama club. “The drama department has grown so much this year with a lot of new faces and new talents that are shining through,” said Erbschloe.

One act plays are a play that consists of only one act of a play with minimal set changes and costume changes. When the drama department’s plays are performed, together they will be about the same length as a full length play. In previous years the spring one act plays were in April, but due to scheduling this year there was a time crunch. Senior Bethany Raps and longtime actress said, “It is definitely challenging adjusting to this year's fast pace.” As she is one of the major roles in the comedy, memorizing lines in a shorter time has been a bigger hardship than before.

Senior Nick Ditto has been a part of the musical department for years, but this year is his first time acting in the drama club productions. Ditto has an interesting perspective on both longer and shorter shows, saying, “After doing one acts and long shows I really enjoy one acts a tad bit more.”

What makes these plays even more remarkable is how seamlessly you’ll journey from uncontrollable laughter to heartfelt moments of sorrow. Within just a few short hours, you'll be taken on an emotional adventure, laughing out loud, shedding a tear and reflecting on the complexities of the human experience.

The one act plays will be ready for your viewing on March 21 and 22 at 7:00 P.M. and March 23 at 2:00 P.M. Sophomore Lilly Hill, lead role in Antigone said, “Go watch. You’ll feel chills down your body when you start to understand the story.”
